Oldies
A collection of a few of my older pieces from way back in secondary school; the less scruffy-looking ones anyway. My art class was tasked with creating a range of work from a module title. I chose “small” as my theme, and decided to interpret it as small animals for the topic. Years later, I’m still drawing animals, but this was the starting point.

One of the first pieces of the topic, a puffer fish. Like almost all the other coloured pieces I do, it was done in oil pastel.

Another fish, this time more colourful albeit a bit less detailed than the puffer fish; a clownfish.

Moving from oil pastel to pencil and away from fish to something with more legs. Many more legs. The art classroom we were working in had a couple of taxidermied spiders that I'm pretty sure I was the only one to ever touch. I prefer the second spider picture picture to this one, but this wolf spider was a fun place to start nonetheless.

Even hairier than the wolf spider, the classroom tarantula. Expired and taxidermied by the time of drawing, although this was apparently little comfort to the poor other students sharing a table with me.

The last of the invertebrates in this collection, a ladybird.

Back to fish, this piranha is one of my favourites from this project.
